As just about any experienced Health and Wellness Coach can confirm, it is inevitable that obstacles and detours hinder even the best of our intentions and plans on the path to new healthy habits.
Working with a health coach can help the individual connect health to what the client values most and co-create the roadmap to get to where he/she wants to be. Once the groundwork is completed, the daily task of implementing, slowly but surely, new habits is a road that can be ‘bumpy’ at best.
BodyVision SL in exclusive cooperation with the Highland Lake Inn has incorporated a lengthy maintenance program into the wellness week series in order to support the individual in overcoming what life might ‘put in the way’ to challenge the client once he/she is back at home in old routines and tempting old habits.
Setbacks and detours, such as a special event, a trip abroad, an ‘inner voice’ that sabotages ones efforts, a stressful work life, a plan gone astray, any of these does not mean that the program is ruined.
When we are afraid of failure, we often are hesitant to move forward. But it helps to think of setbacks not as failures but as a place to learn and grow. It helps to identify if a problem in the program is a lapse, a relapse, or even a collapse! A lapse could be a single event, a relapse can be identified as a recurring difficulty and new strategies need to be designed that line up with lifestyle and long term goals. A collapse might be the right time for a day off, a talk with your coach, a re-identifying with the motivators that got you started on the path to wellness and moved you along in the beginning.
Coaching offers tools in a long term process of striving to reach and stay at one’s ‘personal best’. Expecting setbacks, preparing for them, identifying them , forgiving oneself, learning the lesson to be learned, and starting fresh the next day is part of what ‘success’ is all about.
And it is always good to know that starting off on a healthy habits program, ce-designing it yourself, if done right, is a sure way to get ahead and stay ahead. Find out more at the BodyVision website: CLICK HERE
